Driver who hit and killed Amirul Hafiz to be charged today

The suspect was previously reported to have tested positive for alcohol and drugs, and was detained for investigation under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

A MAN believed to have been driving while drunk and under the influence of drugs, causing the death of a motorcyclist on Jalan Raya Barat, here, is expected to be charged in the Klang Magistrate's Court this morning.

South Klang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey, confirmed the matter in a short message to the media last night.

According to him, the suspect will be brought to court at 8.30 am to face charges related to the incident.

The suspect was previously reported to have tested positive for alcohol and drugs, and was detained for investigation under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

If convicted, it provides for a prison sentence of up to 15 years, a maximum fine of RM100,000, and a driving disqualification of at least 10 years.

In the incident at around 11.40 am last Sunday, the victim, Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, died at the scene after his motorcycle was hit by a car driven by the suspect, who was believed to be speeding in the opposite lane towards the Klang city centre.

The suspect is understood to have overtaken several vehicles before crashing into the victim's motorcycle, causing Amirul Hafiz to be hit and thrown onto a Perodua Myvi.

The victim was confirmed dead at the scene due to serious injuries.

It is understood that Amirul Hafiz worked in a warehouse during the day and did part-time work as a delivery boy at night to supplement the family's income.

The deceased's body was buried at the Kampung Repoh Islamic Cemetery, Batu Kurau, Perak.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, and three children, namely Muhammad Aqif Amsyar, 9; Muhammad Afif Izz Rayqal, 7, and Nur Humaira, 2. – April 1, 2026
