THE driver involved in a crash that killed Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, at Jalan Raya Barat in Klang, on Sunday, was charged with murder in the magistrates’ court today.

R Saktygaanapathy, 28, a technician, was also charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for consuming dangerous drugs

The accused nodded in understanding after the murder charge was read out before Magistrate A Karthiyayini.

However, no plea was recorded from the accused, who was wearing a white collared T-shirt and shorts, because murder falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

He was charged with murdering Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, along Jalan Raya Barat, at 11.47 am, on March 29.

The charge was under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and if not sentenced to hanging, he must be whipped not less than 12 times.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of administering drugs suspected to be benzo and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) into his body.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Narcotics Office, Klang District Police Headquarters here at 3.30 pm on the same date.

The charge was under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine of not more than RM5,000 or a maximum imprisonment of two years, if convicted.

Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, while the accused was not represented.

Raja Zaizul did not offer any bail and requested a new date for the submission of documents for the autopsy, pathology and forensic reports.

The proceeding was also attended by the deceased's wife, Nurul Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, who followed the proceedings and listened as the interpreter read out the charge.

The case will be mentioned again on June 3. – April 1, 2026
