KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) is nothing but a congregation of “traitors”, according to PKR communications chief Fahmi Fadzil.
The Lembah Pantai MP made a snarky remark of Larry Sng’s new political outfit, saying that the people must avoid voting for the party at all costs come 15th general election seeing that they have hopped from other parties to join PBM.
“It is actually good to have all of the “traitors” in one party, you can see all of them in one place now and you know which party to avoid and who not to vote for,” he said sarcastically, when asked if PKR would have political cooperation with PBM.
He was speaking to The Vibes at his office after receiving book donations from the Vinod Sekhar Foundation yesterday.
During PBM’s general meeting last Saturday, former PKR man Sng was elected to helm the party as its first president.
Aside from the Julau MP, former PKR women chief and current state assemblywoman of Lembah Jaya in Selangor, Haniza Mohamed Talha, was appointed as PBM’s deputy president.
Another former PKR member who made top ranks in the new party, Tebrau MP Steven Choong, who was made senior vice-president I.
Among other notable names revealed in a press statement issued by Sng on Saturday are two Bersatu assemblymen from Perak: A. Sivasubramaniam (Buntong) and Paul Yong (Tronoh).
Sivasubramaniam was made senior vice-president II, while Yong was elected as the party’s treasurer-general.
Malim Nawar assemblyman Leong Cheok Keng, who was sacked from DAP last January, was elected into the party’s supreme council, along with Ong Chin Wen and Lee Chin Cheh, both former PKR reps.
Although PKR has not deliberated on working together with PBM or otherwise, Fahmi expressed rejection towards the newly formed party.
“If you were to ask me personally, I would say no. We have not discussed this as a party.
“But in principle, the party is prepared to work with any and all parties who adopt the same values, principles and objectives,” he said.
Seeing that PBM’s top brass and supreme council are fond of party hopping, the Lembah Pantai MP stressed that PKR must be cautious about working with that party.
He is of the view that PBM serves as an example and warning to his fellow democrats to not misuse trust given to them, saying “if you live by the sword, you die by the sword”.
“We have to be very cautious about working with other people because we will be placing trust in them.
“We have seen, in the case of PBM, they subscribed to a modus operandi that ultimately led to the disintegration of faith in the democratic practice.” – The Vibes, January 12, 2022
