KUALA LUMPUR – Family members play an important role in protecting one another from Covid-19 and curbing the disease’s spread in the community, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The prime minister, in a message today given in conjunction with the launch of National Family Month, said the challenges facing families have also increased in terms of providing education to children.

As such, he said, Budget 2021 focuses on initiatives to help vulnerable groups hit hard by the pandemic.

“The theme of this year’s National Family Month celebration, ‘We Take Care of the Family’, is apt given the current situation.

“The impact of the pandemic on the country, and practices under the new normal, have changed our lives.

“The government continues to work on alleviating the people’s cost-of-living concerns and providing a comprehensive social protection programme to ensure vulnerable and low-income groups are not left behind.”

The strength of the family institution is key to ensuring the community and nation’s stability, he said, adding that the government is committed to protecting the said institution.

He praised those who help families in need, regardless of race and religion, during the implementation of movement curbs against the coronavirus.

“I believe the country can rise again after this. This is the unique Malaysian Family – always together to help one another in bad and happy times.” – Bernama, November 7, 2020
