BUKIT MERTAJAM – State Local Government and Housing Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo assured users that no elements of a cyber-attack was involved in the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) system glitch.
He added that the data of e-wallet users will not be affected as a result of the incident.
“I am also pleased to inform you that the PSP system services have been repaired and the app is in proper working order now.
“The PSP system has so far recorded a total collection of RM29.1 million.
“The parking payment transactions as well as other transactions in the PSP system can be carried out as usual,” he told the media after the installation of an IOT camera as part of the Penang Smart Parking facilities at Bandar Perda here today.
Jagdeep’s comments came as PSP users’ balance in their e-wallets displayed a total of RM4.40 for all users yesterday morning.
“The PSP app has been widely used by the people of Penang with a total of 300,370 active users.”
The PSP system, he said, was intended for the convenience of getting vacant parking spaces without having to search for a long time.
A total of 12,000 parking spaces have been gazetted in the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) area, while 24,000 parking spaces are in the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) area for the purpose.
He added that the app also aids the local authorities as enforcement officers will not need to conduct regular patrols to issue printed compounds.
Through the app, parking coupons are no longer printed hence reducing carbon footprint.
Jagdeep said MBPP had installed a total of 12,000 sensor units since February 28 last year, while MBSP had installed 22,284 sensor units so far with 1,716 units of alternative sensors yet to be installed in Seberang Prai.
“For the purpose of providing a more conducive service to the people of Penang, alternative sensors (CCTV camera type) will use high quality cameras (high definition) equipped with artificial intelligence systems.
“The installation of alternative sensors is carried out on the roads in Seberang Prai, which are categorised as high-risk roads.
“The state government will continue its commitment to ensure that all smart initiatives including the PSP project will be implemented effectively as planned to achieve Penang’s Vision 2030,” Jagdeep added. – The Vibes, January 20, 2022
