KUALA LUMPUR – The debate session turned into a shouting match at the Dewan Rakyat today, after Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (Kinabatangan-BN) accused Khalid Samad (Shah Alam-PH) of being absent in his constituency during the floods.
Khalid said that on December 18, he was busy assisting a man who lost nine family members in an accident.
“I was helping to organise the funeral, helping place family members visiting in Melaka.
“We were trapped by the floods with hotels in Shah Alam fully booked,” Khalid said.
This prompted Bung Moktar to shout from across the aisle that Khalid was missing during the floods as he was attending to other matters.
Khalid explained that everything happened in Shah Alam and warned Bung Moktar against making fun of the tragic incident.
The Amanah lawmaker then pointed out that the following day on December 19, he visited Decathlon to purchase three kayaks for use in flood rescue operations.
“They told me to just use the kayaks first without paying because the floods were still happening.
“They said if I don’t need them later, I can return them and Decathlon would assume they were merely borrowed,” Khalid said.
He then challenged Bung Moktar to repeat his statements outside and not hide behind parliamentary immunity.
“I dare Bung Moktar and the prime minister to repeat that I was missing in Shah Alam during the floods.
“Say it outside, don’t just be a hero in the Dewan Rakyat.
“Don’t be a coward, don’t hide behind parliamentary immunity,” Khalid said. – The Vibes, January 20, 2022
