SANDAKAN – Fresh from leaving DAP recently, Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong will decide on his political direction next month.
He said it is too early for him to be joining any parties and that he plans to focus on serving his constituents for now.
“I still have not thought of joining any party for the time being. Right now, I am an independent assemblyman and would focus on my people.
“I haven’t given much thought to joining any party yet. I also cannot say whether I will be friendly to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government,” Chong told The Vibes, indicating that he would decide on the matter by February.
Meanwhile, in Kota Kinabalu, Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said he has yet to reach out to the two former DAP reps who left the party two days ago.
“We need to see their personal stand. We don’t want to be seen as there are any motives from Warisan.
“To me, there’s no position and money to be given to them. But if they wish to work with Warisan, there’s no problem.
“After all, the two reps also contested under the Warisan logo in the Sabah election held in 2020,” he said when met during his walkabout at Gaya Street in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.
Shafie added if Warisan was able to accept Teratai assemblyman Bryan Lai from Selangor, the party should have no issue accepting Sabah reps into the Warisan fold. – The Vibes, January 23, 2022
