KANGAR – Indera Kayangan assemblywoman Gan Ay Ling has urged Perlis water authorities to expedite their upgrading works after some 350 residents at Taman Mutiara here complained about supply disruptions and poor water pressure.
She issued the call after resident Toh Kok Hoo lodged a complaint saying that people cannot bear to face the problem, especially with Chinese New Year coming soon.
Gan, who used to be a councillor on the Penang Island City Council, said that the water disruption issue has dragged on intermittently for two decades. She said the Barisan Nasional-led Perlis government needs to address the matter urgently.
The PKR rep said that although supply is eventually restored, there are long spells when there is no water at all.
There is also low water pressure at some houses here, Gan said in a text message to The Vibes.
“It is cumbersome to the people because they need to source for water outside of their housing estates. There is a need to rectify things fast in this age,” she said.
Furthermore, water is crucial in aiding the people to cleanse themselves and their surroundings during the pandemic, as there is a need to be always hygienic to keep Covid-19 at bay.
Resident Pang Kui Lim, 68, proposed that the water authorities install a big water tank in the neighbourhood to meet the needs of the residents here.
