KUALA LUMPUR – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been transferred out of the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) and to an ordinary ward at the National Heart Institute (NHI) following further improvements of his condition, Datin Marina Mahathir said today.
The former prime minister’s daughter announced through a brief statement that a diagnosis carried out by the NHI specialists noted Dr Mahathir’s improving condition that warranted his transfer into a non-intensive ward.
“Today, Tun Dr Mahathir was transferred out of the CCU into an ordinary ward at the NHI.
“Tun Dr Mahathir is cheerful and in good spirits towards making a full recovery.”
She included that as a precaution to avoid any possible external source of infections, visitors will not be allowed to meet with Dr Mahathir and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali while they remain in NHI.
“Once again, he and the entire family expresses their thankfulness to all parties who have offered up prayers for his speedy and full recovery,” she added.
Yesterday, Marina announced Dr Mahathir’s improving condition following his admission into the NHI where the nonagenarian was able to share light moments with present family members, while also regaining his appetite.
According to Marina, Dr Mahathir’s latest admission into the NHI happened last Thursday as part of follow-up treatment to an elective procedure he underwent on January 8.
Last Saturday, she had said Dr Mahathir was in a stable condition following the admission and that he was responding well to the treatment administered.
On Sunday, Marina found herself compelled to advise the public against rumours being circulated about her father’s wellbeing, saying how she and her family would be the ones providing official updates on his condition. – The Vibes, January 26, 2022
