KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s condition continues to improve while being admitted at the National Heart Institute (NHI), with the nonagenarian even able to share light moments with family members, his daughter Datin Marina Mahathir announced today.

Issuing an update on his condition, Marina said her father also expressed his gratitude towards the prayers and well wishes he received from all corners of society, including leaders of several foreign nations.

“Dr Mahathir’s health condition continues to show signs of improvement today.

“He has regained his appetite, which is improving day by day, and even managed to share jokes with family members present at his side at the NHI,” she said in a statement.

Marina explained how her father will remain admitted in the health facility until experts decide otherwise, adding that Dr Mahathir has urged the public not to be too worried about his condition.

“Dr Mahathir will continue to receive treatment in NHI under the care and monitoring of local experts.

“As of now, NHI still does not allow visitors other than immediate family members,” she added.

Last Sunday, Marina urged the public to not pay attention to rumours about her father’s condition following his admission into NHI.

A day before, she had said her father was in stable condition and was responding well to treatment after being admitted to the NHI on Thursday.

She had said it was part of a follow-up to an elective procedure he underwent earlier on January 8. – The Vibes, January 25, 2022
