MERSING – Pakatan Harapan’s Endau candidate garnered attention as he showed up in full wedding attire to hand in his nomination form at the Endau Multipurpose Hall here today.
Clad in a maroon-coloured wedding outfit, complete with a traditional headpiece, Amanah member Mohd Fakrulradzi Mahmud was accompanied by his 85-year-old father, Mahmud Mat Isa, at around 8.38am.
The 32-year-old had already undergone his solemnisation ceremony on February 22.
His reception event coincidentally fell on the same day as the nomination day for the upcoming Johor state election, reported The Vibes’ sister portal, Getaran.
“I did not plan for the dates to clash, as I had already set February 26 as the day for the reception.
“Then the Election Commission announced that nomination day would be on the same day.
“For the sake of Johoreans, I decided to sacrifice time that should have been spent on my happy day,” he said.
He added that he does not mind postponing his honeymoon plans with his wife in order to make way for the state polls.
“I have had to cancel my honeymoon plans and prioritise the Johor state election in the interest of the future generation,” he said.
Meanwhile, his wife, Mardiah Abd Razak, 34, who was also dressed in a full wedding outfit, said that their reception will be taking place at Kg Sg Mengkuang.
She added that she is not disappointed with the postponement of her honeymoon, saying: “I know that my husband is fighting for our religion and community.
“I support his endeavours and do not have any qualms with our schedule as he is doing (good) things for the people.”
Fakrulradzi will be going against four other candidates in Endau, namely Mohd Youzaimi Yusof (Barisan Nasional), Mohd Noorhisyam Ibrahim (Pejuang), and Ismail Don (independent).
Completing the five-cornered battle, incumbent Alwiyah Talib (Bersatu) will also be attempting to defend her seat. – The Vibes, February 26, 2022
