KUALA LUMPUR – PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has brushed aside speculation about the dissolution of the Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu assemblies.
The leader of the Islamist party, in a brief statement, signalled that snap polls will not be held before the next general election.
The statement came amid widespread rumours of state elections being called in Kedah, following the string of polls in Johor, Melaka and Sarawak.
“PAS is following the developments in local politics, alongside giving the necessary focus towards the country’s efforts on health and economic recovery as it enters the endemic phase.
“Therefore, PAS has made the stance that the state assemblies for Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah will not be dissolved until the end of their terms to give focus to stability and the people’s well-being.”
Hadi said this several hours after Umno’s Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi was sworn in as the Johor menteri besar.
The Machap assemblyman was sworn in during a ceremony that took place in Istana Bukit Serene this afternoon, after receiving consent from Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
During the Johor polls on March 12, Onn Hafiz had defeated three candidates for the Machap seat, with a majority of 11,029 votes.
The 43-year-old is also the grandson of the late former prime minister Tun Hussein Onn and nephew of current Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
BN managed to capture Johor in a landslide victory, winning the state election with a more than two-thirds majority, sweeping 40 of the 56 seats up for grabs. – The Vibes, March 15, 2022
