PAS has indicated that it will take over and lead the top leadership of Perikatan Nasional (PN), after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stepped down as the coalition's chairman effective yesterday.
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said that PAS will hold a special meeting next week to select a new chairman candidate, but the position will not be from among Bersatu leaders.
"PAS has many candidates of caliber, including politicians and technocrats," he said as reported.
On another development, Abdul Hadi was also asked to comment on him being mentioned as a suitable candidate to hold the position of PN chairman.
"I am not that well and already old, but the candidate who will be chosen to lead PN will be discussed at a meeting next week, which will definitely be from among PAS leaders," he said.
He added that whether the special meeting will be attended by the Bersatu leadership depends on the party leaders' stance.
Abdul Hadi said that the relationship between PAS and Bersatu is still good though Muhyiddin and several PN state chairmen have announced their resignations.
Regarding the action against three PAS representatives who allegedly signing statutory accounts (SD) not supporting the leadership of former Perlis Menteri Besar, Mohd Shukri Ramli, Abdul Hadi said that action to strip them of their membership has been taken.
He said that based on the state constitution, the three elected representatives must also be stripped of their position as state assemblymen (ADUN). – January 2, 2026
