PUTRAJAYA – The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will explain the details of the special RM10,000 withdrawal for account holders tomorrow afternoon, said Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
He said EPF will provide information on the withdrawals following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s announcement on the matter earlier today.
“The details of the withdrawals will be explained by EPF in the near future. God willing, it will be tomorrow afternoon,” he told reporters during a press conference on the roll-out of the country’s 5G network at the Finance Ministry building in Putrajaya here this afternoon.
“If possible, be patient as it will be announced tomorrow afternoon and EPF will also announce the necessary steps on handling the issue of depleting retirement fund accounts.”
Ismail Sabri today said the government has agreed to allow a special withdrawal of RM10,000 from EPF to help those in financial difficulty due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said in a brief live telecast that the government is cognisant of the difficulty the public faces in recovering from the pandemic, but urged the public to only make the special withdrawal if absolutely necessary.
The government had previously allowed EPF contributors to dip into their savings on three separate occasions between 2020 and 2021, as the public reeled from strict pandemic curbs that all but halted businesses and outdoor activities.
On Monday, Tengku Zafrul said contributors could have enjoyed dividends of up to 6.7% for 2021 instead of 6.1% if they did not make the earlier withdrawals. – The Vibes, March 16, 2022
