KUALA LUMPUR – DAP’s Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen was elected as the party youth wing’s (Dapsy) chief during its national congress yesterday.

The Bandar Kuching MP wrested the post after receiving 232 votes, outpacing the other two contenders – Bandar Utama assemblywoman Jamaliah Jamaluddin, and Eric Teh Hoong Keat who was the incumbent secretary of the wing.

Dr Yii replaces Howard Lee who is now running for a place in the central executive committee during the main party congress meeting today.

On Facebook, Dr Yii thanked his peers and supporters for entrusting him with the post.

“With this trust and responsibility given to me, I will carry out (my duties) wholeheartedly with my team, especially to unite and consolidate Dapsy nationwide,” he said.

Dr Yii also expressed gratitude to Jamaliah and Teh, saying they share the same ideologies in wanting to see Dapsy strengthened.

“I am confident in the potential and ability of young people to forge a better future and I believe Dapsy will continue to be a catalyst and thinker that will bring creative and innovative solutions to the issues faced by young people and all Malaysians.”

Meanwhile, Ketari assemblywoman Young Syefura Othman, popularly known as Rara, secured the deputy chief seat after gaining 212 votes and defeating Abdul Aziz Isa Marindo and Alive Lan Suet Ling, Astro Awani reported.

The four vice-chief posts were clinched by G. Annun Nancy, K. Jason Raj, P.S Keristinah, and Teh Swee Leong, while Wayne Ong Chun Wei was selected as Dapsy secretary.

Another 15 individuals, including Tan Kim Ping, Woo Kah Leong and Rachel Teh, were made members of Dapsy’s central committee.

According to Astro Awani, the Dapsy congress meeting involved 400 delegates who began voting at around 7pm yesterday.

The elected Dapsy leaders will be holding their posts until the end of term in 2024. – The Vibes, March 20, 2022
