KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin (Padang Besar-Umno) has pinned the blame on an agency under his own ministry for the lack of better internet infrastructure in Sabah, Sarawak, and in rural areas in Peninsular Malaysia.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had done nothing for the past eight months despite receiving complaints from MPs, Zahidi said yesterday during the Dewan Rakyat’s Special Chambers session.

“As a minister, I don’t know either why no projects have been completed yet. Why is this so, despite eight months of talking about setting up towers?” said Zahidi.

“I already asked MCMC to give me a report of how many projects have been completed, but I have not received anything yet.”

Zahidi was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (Arau-Umno) who asked the deputy minister on the government’s policies over the development of better internet infrastructure in rural areas in the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak.

Zahidi added that his ministry would make another appeal to MCMC to expedite projects in districts that require upgrading or maintenance. – The Vibes, November 11, 2020
