KUALA LUMPUR – Parliament today approved the federal government’s additional expenditure of RM13.9 billion for 2021, part of which was used to expand the Health Ministry’s development budget for that year.

The supplementary supply bill, which was passed by voice vote, covered an additional operational expenditure of RM5.5 billion and operational costs of RM8.4 billion incurred last year.

The largest share of the extra development spending went to the Health Ministry at RM3.8 billion, followed by another RM842.7 million spent by the Public Service Department.

On the operational end, RM4.6 billion was used for general treasury services while RM3.1 billion in additional funds were allocated as contributions to the statutory fund.

Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah, who tabled the supplementary supply bill, said the government does not expect the additional expenditure to affect its 2021 fiscal deficit target of between 6.5%-7%. – The Vibes, March 22, 2022
