FORMER Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Azam Baki has formally denied allegations that he threatened businessman Albert Tei, after spending two hours providing a statement to investigators at Bukit Aman police headquarters on Wednesday.
Azam arrived at Bukit Aman at approximately 9am and gave what he described as his full cooperation to officers conducting the investigation.
“The statement-recording process took about two hours, during which I answered questions posed by officers from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department,” he said.
The appearance marks the latest development in an investigation stemming from a police report lodged by Tei on May 13, in which the businessman alleged that he had been threatened.
Azam firmly rejected the accusations and told investigators that he had no prior relationship or dealings with Tei.
“I have also never sent any lawyer to meet any party on my behalf.”
“I submitted evidence to the investigating officer showing that I have never met or dealt directly with Albert,” he said.
The former anti-graft chief's statement comes as police continue to gather evidence before submitting their findings to prosecutors.
Earlier, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M Kumar confirmed that Azam would be called in to assist investigators examining the allegations.
Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which covers criminal intimidation.
According to police, the completed investigation papers will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further instructions and legal review once inquiries are concluded.
The case has attracted considerable public attention due to Azam's former role as head of Malaysia's anti-corruption agency and the seriousness of the allegations involved.
No charges have been filed against any party, and police have not disclosed further details regarding the substance of the complaint while investigations remain ongoing. - June 3, 2026
