KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor urged Putrajaya to continue with the construction of the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) complex in the Kalabakan district.
He said the project is important for the state and that illegal entry by migrants can spiral out of control without it.
“We will call for another discussion with the federal government. Putrajaya should not put the CIQS complex on hold.
“It is one of the entry points between Sabah and Kalimantan, Indonesia and if delayed, it will lead to an uncontrolled entry by illegal migrants.
“We will express this to the federal government so they will prioritise the CIQS project,” he said after attending the one-year Sabah Maju Jaya plan anniversary, here.
The construction of the CIQS complex was part of the Jalan Kalabakan-Serudong package of the Trans-Borneo Highway and was seen as a game changer to Sabah’s economy and the communities in the Kalabakan district.
However, Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof told Parliament that the development was suspended due to a lack of funds in his reply to Warisan’s Kalabakan MP Ma’mun Sulaiman on March 23.
This comes after Hajiji himself announced that the federal government has approved the road and CIQS complex valued at RM600 million.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and Ma’mun had also urged the federal government to consider speeding up the project. – The Vibes, March 29, 2022
