Prevention of Crime Act, not Sosma, for suspected TCB21 Gang members

KUALA LUMPUR – Police today announced that they will take action against a group of people believed to be members of a secret society under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (Poca).

The group is suspected of comprising members of the TCB21 Gang, a secret society allegedly involved in organised crime, said the force in a statement today.

Initially, the investigation was carried out under Section 130V of the Penal Code for offences relating to organised crime.

“They were also investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) that allows for detention up to 28 days.

“However, the statements gathered were insufficient to charge them under Section 130V of the Penal Code.”

Police said their probe revealed that the TCB21 Gang is an active secret society involved in serious crimes, including attempted murder with the use of firearms, shooting in riots, and blackmail.

“On November 12, 25 gang members were arrested under Poca. This is to ensure peace and public safety.” – The Vibes, November 13, 2020
