KOTA KINABALU – Umno’s announcement of its prime ministerial candidate for the coming national polls is proof of the party’s “extraordinary solidarity” that cannot be found in erstwhile partners Perikatan Nasional or the opposition Pakatan Harapan, Sabah Umno chief Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said today.

Bung, who is also Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the two rival coalitions are led by leaders who are too preoccupied with their personal interests to bother choosing a prime ministerial candidate of their own.

“The decision made by the Umno Supreme Council in naming vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the prime ministerial candidate for the 15th general election reflects Umno extraordinary solidarity,” he said.

Yesterday, Umno’s supreme council decided that Ismail Sabri would be their choice for prime minister should they win the coming general election, which must be held by May next year.

Bung said the decision showed the “maturity” of Umno’s leaders towards ensuring the party and the BN coalition that its leaders are ready to bring stability to the nation.

“In choosing Ismail Sabri, Umno shows their priorities are towards Malaysia and the party rather than personal interests,” he said. – The Vibes, April 15, 2022
