KUALA LUMPUR – An Umno leader has threatened to take legal action against Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, after the latter accused him of supposedly being behind the recent leaked PAS document.

Selangor Barisan Nasional information chief Isham Jalil said he will also lodge a police report tomorrow, and wants the PAS election director to be investigated for criminal defamation.

Isham described Sanusi’s remark as an open accusation with elements of slander maliciously intended to defame his reputation.

“Before we sue him, let’s lodge a police report first,” he said in a Facebook post today.

“No one is above the law when it comes to defamation, no matter if you are an ordinary person or a menteri besar. The law doesn’t recognise status or position.

“As a Muslim, I am giving him a chance to atone for his sins. As such, I’ll give him 48 hours to apologise to me and withdraw what he has said. Otherwise, I will take further action.”

In a press conference yesterday, Sanusi had said he was of the opinion that the leaked PAS minutes – which allegedly highlighted contents of recent discussions between PAS leaders and others from several political parties – were produced by cybertroopers from interested parties.

Sanusi said these interested parties could include Isham, describing the Umno man as a person with the potential to fabricate such documents.

Among others, the purported report by the Islamist party had claimed that PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar had acted as operators to engage with political leaders.

The high-level meetings supposedly discussed strategies to face the coming election, with the document also stressing the importance of expediting the court cases involving Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his predecessor Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Samsuri, Umno’s Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein. and Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who were all named in the report, have both rubbished the contents of the alleged minutes.

Police have also confirmed that they have initiated investigation into the supposed revelations contained in the leaked document, and will be questioning politicians named in the minutes.

Yesterday, Isham had already issued a challenge to Sanusi to take the Islamic oath of “sumpah laknat” if the latter truly believed he was behind the fabrication of the document. – The Vibes, April 28, 2022
