KUALA LUMPUR – A number of politicians named in the purportedly leaked meeting minutes that had Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders allegedly expressing the intention to topple the Barisan Nasional-led government will be called in by the police for questioning.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim was quoted in a Harian Metro report as confirming that a probe into the supposed revelations contained within the leaked documents had been initiated.
“Kuala Lumpur police through the Criminal Investigations Department will be calling in all politicians named in the document to facilitate the investigations.
“What I can reveal at this point is that the individuals involved will be called in to have their statements recorded the soonest,” he said.
The top cop, however, stopped short of revealing when these politicians are expected to be questioned by investigators.
Last week, following the circulation of the documents, PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar denied there was a plot involving leaders of the party and some others to topple Barisan Nasional (BN) from power.
PAS and Bersatu are key components of PN.
Samsuri, who is also the Terengganu menteri besar, had dismissed the documents as “rubbish” and denied down their authenticity, saying they were circulated by irresponsible parties.
The leaked documents, believed to be minutes of PN meetings, were leaked on social media and were allegedly related to discussions between Samsuri and PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and several other party leaders on March 24 and March 27, as well as on April 4 and April 7.
Among the leaders mentioned in the alleged documents were Bersatu supreme council members Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, and BN treasurer-general Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
Hishammuddin also denied the documents’ authenticity and called them “rubbish”, adding that it was unacceptable for someone to cook up such stories during the Ramadan fasting month. – The Vibes, April 26, 2022
