JARINGAN Rawang Tolak Insinerator (JRTI) has chided Kuala Kubu Baru by-election candidate Pang Sock Tao for evading their questions on the incinerator project.

JRTI coordinator Liow Yeong Lih said they attempted to meet Pang, who is a DAP candidate, but to no avail.

"This morning we tried to seek her stance and response to the two questions we raised the previous day (on the incinerator project).

"However, as our members prepared to meet Pang, who was engaged in a political rally speech, they were obstructed by DAP leaders and supporters, including former minister Yeo Bee Yin," he said in a statement.

Liow said they repeatedly prevented their members from approaching Pang, using the excuse that this was an issue for the Rawang constituency and not relevant to Kuala Kubu Baru.

JRTI reiterates its demand for the four candidates in the KKB by-election to state their positions on two matters.

"Will they advocate for the implementation of waste segregation at the source through legislative measures in the Selangor State Assembly upon assuming office?

"Do they endorse the contentious Batu Arang incinerator project despite its potential environmental hazards?"

The KKB by-election will see a four-cornered battle waged by Pang (Pakatan Harapan), Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent).

Liow added that they are disappointed with Pang for evading them.

"This is not the conduct expected from a responsible politician and party. We urge Pang to confront the questions head-on, without any hesitation or avoidance."

Residents are against the RM4.5 billion incinerator project in Batu Arang.

They are also seeking the intervention of Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari to stop it.

KDEB Waste Management and YTL Power are to develop the project, which covers 99.15ha. - The Vibes, May 4, 2024.
