A STUNNING visual treat awaits fans as they celebrate Star Wars Day today.

This is the day when all Star Wars fans will get to participate in the saga that started "A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..."

The Star Wars extravaganza, organised by the Star Wars Malaysia Fan Club, kicks off today at the Orange concourse in Sunway Pyramid.

It will feature Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Storm Troopers, Tie Fighter pilots, Jedi, the Mandolorian and Bobba Fett.

Club president CK Lau said the event will start with two "Saber Academy" sessions with lightsaber play.

"On Sunday, we will also be at Sunway Pyramid to help promote the launch of Lego's 25th year partnership to make Star Wars products," Lau said.

"We will be having costume appearances, trivia contests and Lego merchandise on display."

There will be a grand lightsaber flash mob of various characters at 7.30pm.

"We are trying to get the largest gathering of Jedi with lightsabers to join us."

The Star Wars Malaysia fan club was initiated in 1999 by a group of college students. It has continued to grow over the years.

The club organises exhibitions, cosplay events and more.

Lau said he fell in love with Star Wars at 15 after he watched the 1999 movie, “The Phantom Menace”.

"I was attracted by the visual effects, graphics, cinematography. I went on to study film and animation and became a film lover.

"I like the ways of the Jedi as they are always trying to make right what is wrong,” Lau said.

He said the club has more than 2,000 members and 16,000 fans on Facebook.

"I joined the club eight years ago, participated in the events, volunteered for the group activities and joined in the competitions.

“The three characters that stand out for me are Obi-Wan Kenobi, Bobba Fett, and Luke Skywalker.

"I like them because they are there to fight the darkness," he said.

Lau is also a Star Wars Funko Pop collector with more than 700 pieces of the collection. – May 4, 2024.
