POLICE have yet to establish who was behind the alleged vandalism at a mosque in Kampung Berangan, Tumpat, Kelantan, but some on social media have already sought to link the incident to the MADANI government.

The incident at Masjid Al-Aziz Al-Hadi, Kota SPP Warisan, caused concern after a glass door was smashed and a foul-smelling, brownish-green liquid was found poured onto the carpet in the prayer area.

Tumpat district police chief ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie said CCTV footage showed a man believed to be linked to the incident.

At this stage, however, police have not identified the man or established his motive.

There has also been no indication from the authorities that the incident was politically motivated.

The issue took a political turn after a post on Threads questioned how far the “higher-ups” would go in responding to the incident.

The post also referred to the MADANI government, saying the administration led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim needed to prove that Islam remained protected.

The remarks drew a sharp response from other users, who questioned why the Federal Government was being blamed while the case was still under police investigation.

“Why blame the MADANI government too? What does it have to do with this?” one user wrote.

Another user pointed out that the incident occurred in Kelantan and that the accusation against the MADANI government was unfounded and ridiculous.

Others urged the public to wait for the outcome of the investigation and for the CCTV footage to be properly examined before making accusations, noting that the identity and background of the man seen in the recording remained unclear.

Another user pointed out that the incident occurred in Kelantan and questioned the basis for dragging the Federal Government into the matter.

Police have meanwhile urged the public not to speculate, make accusations or circulate unverified information as investigations continue under Sections 295 and 427 of the Penal Code. – October 6, 2026
