GERAKAN will field a candidate in the Kuala Kubu Bharu by-election on May 11.

Party president, Dominic Lau said the party would be informing the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council about their decision on Monday.

"Though the outcome of the by-election will not lead to a change in the government, the result would at least expose the weaknesses of the unity government.

"The government claims it has done plenty for the people. We will let this by-election be a referendum to expose Pakatan Harapan's weaknesses," he told a press conference in Petaling Jaya.

He said Gerakan also wants to show that DAP has failed the Chinese voters.

"We will campaign to the best of our abilities even if it is later decided that the candidate does not come from our party.

"We will campaign for a victory for the PN," he said.

The by-election was called after DAP's Lee Kee Hiong, 58, died last month.

In the Selangor state election in August last year, Lee had successfully defended the seat by defeating Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Teoh Kien Hong with a majority of 4,119 votes. – The Vibes, April 20, 2024.
