KUALA LUMPUR – Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin’s new website known as Mothering has all but three articles so far on the state of palm oil, and a poster with inspirational “quips”.

Under the poster and quips section, the singular post is a photo of a happy Zuraida along with the caption: “As a woman and mother to my children, no matter how hard things get, I show my strength. And sometimes strength is smiling.”

Several women’s rights groups contacted by The Vibes declined to comment on the initiative due to the preliminary nature of the website.

Meanwhile, the minister said in a statement that the site is a recognition of the unique role shouldered by mothers and their many sacrifices when taking care of their families.

The former PKR women’s chief added that the purpose of the initiative is to educate mothers on their rights as well as to assist single mothers and improve women empowerment.

Noting how she has made it a point to not neglect her duties as a mother despite being a minister, she said family is of utmost importance and time must always be made for loved ones.

“I have constantly been fighting for greater women representation, especially for women in politics. The numbers have improved over the years but there is still more to be done.

“We must never forget that women and children need strong support, love and care to get by in this challenging world and I hope to do my best to assist them in every way I can.”

She said the website will include information on workers’ and economic rights, and environmental sustainability, among others. – The Vibes, May 13, 2022
