SANDAKAN – Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim) is aiming to distribute around 30,000 food baskets to residents affected by the enforcement of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Sabah.

Yadim state director Samin Ongki said 10,000 residents have received aid to date, with the foundation aiming to deliver the remaining 20,000 baskets by the end of this year.

“We hope the aid will help alleviate the burden of those who are affected, especially those who are less fortunate, sick or unemployed,” he told reporters when distributing 50 food baskets at the Sg Manila state constituency today.

Samin said that Yadim would also be distributing another 50 baskets at the Sg Sibuga state constituency.

Under a separate programme, Umno Libaran will be distributing 15,000 food baskets throughout the Libaran parliamentary constituency, which covers the Gum-Gum, Sg Sibuga and Sg Manila state constituencies.

Assemblyman Suhaimi Nasir said he, together with Sg Sibuga assemblyman Hamsan Awang Supain and Sg Manila assemblyman Mokran Ingkat would distribute the food baskets in stages, subject to the supplier’s ability to complete the order within the short period.

“We are distributing the food baskets not only for humanitarian reasons, but also to ensure that local residents’ movements are reduced in an effort to stop the spread of Covid-19,” he said. – Bernama, November 15, 2020
