KUALA LUMPUR – The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) today proposed that main contractors ensure all their workers take a Covid-19 swab test three days before returning to work.

This move comes after a surge in Covid-19 cases at several construction sites in a few states.

According to CIDB and Health Ministry investigations, the rise of Covid-19 cases can be attributed to subcontractors moving workers between different construction sites.

“This situation has caused a spike in cases among construction sites in the Klang Valley. Until yesterday, two clusters were detected – the Damanlela cluster and the Rumawip Setapak cluster – that involves 714 foreign workers and six locals,” CIDB said in a statement.

Between those two clusters, Damanlela recorded the highest number of positive cases because workers from the site were frequently sent to work in other construction sites.
