KUCHING – The government has been urged to take strict action on the intrusion by China’s Coast Guard (CCG) and its People’s Liberation Army Navy into Malaysian waters.
Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said that he has raised the issue with the Sarawak government, stressing its seriousness as it involves the nation’s sovereignty and security.
“This is serious. I have received photos showing China’s battleships in Malaysian waters.
“Why is it so easy for them to intrude on our sovereignty? Where are the APMM (Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency) and the TLDM (Royal Malaysian Navy)? Why (did they) allow our borders to be trespassed?
“These are not any ships, but are foreign military battleships,” the Gabungan Parti Sarawak rep said in a statement today.
Miro said the government should submit an objection note to Asean and urge for international dialogue to be conducted to avoid similar incidents from happening in the future.
“I suggest the objection note be submitted through Wisma Putra to Asean, since it is a body that is recognised, followed by submitting an objection to the Embassy of China in Malaysia.
“This is not the time to be quiet.
“A special dialogue must also be conducted. What is important is Asean needs to be stricter,” he said.
In June last year, the US Pacific Air Force commander had slammed China after its military aircraft had allegedly trespassed into Malaysia’s waters, forcing the Royal Malaysian Air Force to dispatch fighter jets to intercept.
The action was said to be a form of border intrusion, threatening regional stability and creating tension. – The Vibes, June 2, 2022
