MIRI – It would be unwise for the government to call for a snap election as it would only lead to public backlash, said a leader from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
Datuk Peter Minos said this was due to the current economic situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The cost of living and inflation is rising all the time,” he said in a statement, in response to preparations by parties for the looming polls.
“The people are suffering and this is not the time to have another public election.”
Yesterday, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the party will be eyeing seven Chinese-majority parliamentary constituencies in the upcoming polls.
Sim said SUPP expects an early 15th general election (GE15), as early as July, citing a volatile national political scene.
Minos, who is also Kota Samarahan municipal council chairman, said only certain groups of politicians are keen to hold GE15 at this point in time.
He claimed that they are mainly politicians from Umno who are guided by personal interests.
Minos also warned that any move to hold GE15 this year could be “bad” for the ruling government. – The Vibes, June 5, 2022
