GEORGE TOWN – A former DAP man has hit out at his ex-colleague Anthony Loke, describing his offer to work with Warisan as “mere political posturing and nothing new”.

Penang Warisan coordinator Jeff Ooi said after months of “big-tent misadventures” by Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties, DAP should have a clear strategy on how to engage and work with non-Barisan Nasional parties in the run-up to the 15th general election (GE15).

Ooi, who was a Gerakan member prior to joining DAP, said it is bizarre that DAP implicates other parties in its GE15 calculations, and the party does so solely for its own benefit.

“(The) Warisan president has repeatedly announced that there will be no more PH Plus in Sabah and no intention of Warisan joining any ‘big tent’ proposed by PH component parties.

“Warisan is fully aware of the antics of PH leaders since engaging with them in the past six years. We wish them the best of luck,” he told The Vibes today.

Yesterday, DAP secretary-general Loke said while his party was open to cooperating with Warisan, he did not want it to seem that DAP was begging to work with the Sabah-based party.

“Though the relationship between Warisan and DAP has gone through a few years of ups and downs, we hope that everyone can be open-minded and rational in terms of cooperation. The leaders must be magnanimous,” he said.

In late March, Warisan vice-president Datuk Junz Wong had claimed that there is tension between Warisan and DAP due to the latter’s betrayal of the opposition cause.

He blamed the tension on the decision by  DAP and other components of Pakatan Harapan to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Umno-led federal government. – The Vibes, June 5, 2022
