GERIK – Umno is confident of its chances ahead of a potential by-election in the Gerik parliamentary constituency, after incumbent Datuk Hasbullah Osman died of a heart attack yesterday.

Perak Umno liaison chief Datuk Saarani Mohamad said the state chapter, including its Gerik division, has been preparing for the 15th general election for some time, and the same applies to by-elections.

On Hasbullah’s death, Saarani said he has lost a good friend with whom he had forged a close relationship since their teaching days in the early 1980s.

“He taught the morning session while I taught the afternoon classes, and he used to visit me often at the teachers’ quarters,” he said after attending the funeral of the Gerik MP and Umno division chief at Masjid Jamek here.  – Bernama, November 17, 2020
