KUALA LUMPUR – GI Healthcare, the local partner of Chinese state-owned enterprise Sinopharm, will be sponsoring 10,000 vaccines for immediate emergency use by Malaysian frontliners.
This was announced in a statement released after a video conference the two companies had yesterday with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin to update the Malaysian government on the Covid-19 vaccine cooperation between China and Malaysia.
“This will enhance the assessment process for the vaccine’s registration in Malaysia,” said Sinopharm.
“Sinopharm vaccines are currently carrying out phase three clinical trials in 10 countries including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, and Morocco, involving more than 55,000 subjects with none reporting consequence of any adverse side effects reactions.”
It said two vaccines have also been approved for emergency use in China, the UAE, and Bahrain, involving more than 1 million frontliners.
“More than 60,000 personnel who have been vaccinated have gone to work in more than 180 countries overseas without a single reported case of Covid-19 infection.”
The company said its vaccine’s effectiveness was close to 100%, judging from a vaccination run of the 99 employees in Huawei’s Mexico office.
“81 were vaccinated and 18 were not vaccinated. After the outbreak, none of the 81 vaccinated employees were infected, whereas 10 out of 18 employees who were not vaccinated were diagnosed to be Covid-19 positive,” said Sinopharm.
Sinopharm’s vaccines can be stored and transported in temperatures ranging between -2 to -8 degrees Celsius, “far more practical and convenient compared to vaccines by other manufacturers which can be anticipated to face storage and other logistical issues”, according to the company. – The Vibes, November 17, 2020
