MIRI – Acting Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf today refuted a post by the “Jenifer Lawrence” Facebook account that claimed the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) allowed a tourist bus to carry 46 passengers from Sabah to Miri.
The fact was the bus had transferred the passengers, who earlier arrived from Kota Kinabalu by air, to a hotel here from Miri Airport.
“The passengers were sent to a quarantine centre, and sanitisation of the bus was carried out on Monday based on the standard operating procedure outlined by SDMC,” said Aziz in a statement today.
The “Jenifer Lawrence” account shared a link to a Chinese-language news report on the “Sarawak Covid-19 Awareness Group” Facebook page, and said the tourist bus had carried the 46 passengers from Sabah.
However, “Jenifer Lawrence” then corrected her post by saying the daily had misreported the matter.
Her post had invited condemnation from the public, who said SDMC should not have allowed any entry from Sabah as the state still has a high number of Covid-19 cases.
Aziz said the post was inaccurate and could create disharmony.
“We will investigate, and will report this matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission or police.
“The public is reminded not to spread false information and to double-check first before sharing any information on social media.” – Bernama, November 18, 2020
