KUALA LUMPUR – It would not be erroneous to say the logo chosen to represent this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day celebration is rather underwhelming, and in fact, a poor choice.

The logo, which seemingly resembles the WiFi symbol, has since gone viral as netizens did not hesitate to take to social media after failing to connect with it.

Twitter user Ooi Beng Cheang quipped that the blue, yellow and red stair-step symbol reminds him of the WiFi icon, but with “pimples” on it.

Another Twitter user Asyraf with the username @seghapppp was also not on the same wavelength with the logo.

“Standard 1 students can also design this on (Microsoft) Paint.”

Meanwhile, another user Yvonne with the username @yvonneAPY sarcastically said:

“Maybe (Datuk Seri) Ismail Sabri asked his grandchild to draw, to save money because the people are going through a tough time.”

Political cartoonist Zunar refused to pass up the opportunity to poke fun at the logo.

Drawing smiley faces and jumping trails at the end of the tri-colour bands, he gave it a caption “the National Day symbol symbolises lawmakers who are jumping frogs”.

It also came as no surprise for intrepid artist Fahmi Reza to join his fellow netizens in mocking the poorly designed logo by putting his own twist on it.

On his official Twitter account, Fahmi whipped up his own spin of the logo and turned it into a drawing of a clown.

Earlier today, the logo was launched by Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa who said it will represent infrastructural development, communication systems and the expansion of digitalisation efforts for Malaysians’ benefits.

This, Annuar said, was in line with the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, with Teguh Bersama (strong together) as the tagline symbolising strength and togetherness that can be achieved through collective efforts by Malaysians. – The Vibes, July 1, 2022
