[UPDATED] You have a choice, vote out the corrupt or they continue to reign supreme: Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) may not have been perfect during its 22-month reign but allowing the current administration to continue its rule will mean the country’s future remains at the hands of the corrupt, said the opposition leader.

As such, PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged Malaysians not to give up hope in the country’s politics for the sake of future generations.

Speaking at PKR’s Sidang Nadi Rakyat (Peoples Pulse Conference), the PKR president reminded voters that they have a choice to make in the upcoming election, and that “no individual in his right mind” would choose corruption, tyranny, and perversion.

“Yes, some are cynical towards politics today, because of the attitude of some (politicians). But if we choose to reject politics, we will leave the future of our kids decided by the corrupt. Don’t allow this to happen.

“I am not defending everything about PH during its 22 months in power. But the fact is the opportunity given to us has been benefitted by several leaders.

“I disagree that everything (under PH) was weak. Yes, there are weaknesses and betrayals, but these are caused by the traitors. In short, we have no choice (but to vote them out).

“Who can deny that more people are becoming poor, that the income gap between the rich and poor is increasing, that the political elites are profiting for their own interests. Everyone is involved in power abuse and corruption.”

Anwar said unlike its political rivals, PH has been consistently pushing for justice since its inception.

Thus, he called on all party leaders and members to play a role in ensuring the coalition’s victory in the coming election, by listening to the grouses of the common citizens.

“Our job is to rise again and save Malaysia from corruption. Win or lose is a separate question. The main question is the work we do,” he said when addressing some 200 participants present today.

“Our work doesn’t stop here. This is just the start. Our battlefield is on the ground, in the estates, rural areas, among the workers groups and urban poor.”

Meanwhile, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu similarly warned that corruption will continue to be rampant in the country if the current government continues to be in the corridors of power.

He cited the annual corruption perception index as evidence of how Malaysia’s ranking has consistently been poor under the current government.

“We (PH) managed to improve our ranking from 61 (in 2018) to 51 (in 2020). But in one year since they took over control from us, we dropped to 62. This year, perhaps we will drop to number 70, on par with some African nations.”

Mohamad also claimed that the current administration appeals to fan racial sentiments to justify the poor policies they introduced since reclaiming federal power.

“In the name of Malay and Islam, they succeeded in capturing the minds of the rakyat. Perception has overcome facts.

“This is what’s happening among the Malays today. They created perceptions to make them afraid of the Chinese, and this is not easy to get rid of.”

Warning that Malaysia could suffer a similar fate like Sri Lanka, which is facing its worst political and economic crisis, if nothing is done, Mohamad said the choice is now with the people to make a decision. – The Vibes, July 2, 2022
