SHAH ALAM – Calls for more women to be given the opportunity to lead are growing louder as delegates at the Wanita PKR congress push for the chance to be picked as general election candidates.
Delegate Datin Faizah Ariffin said the party constitution’s outline of at least 30% female involvement in decision-making roles has yet to be realised.
“Since GE15 is on the horizon, I urge the leadership to at least give the women a chance.
“Can we aim to put 20 of our women in the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat?”
She said this during the debates at the Ideal Convention Centre here today.
Faizah said this is why the wing must pick leaders who can be the voice of Wanita PKR and Malaysian women, adding that the new line-up of leaders shoulders the heavy burden of steering the party to victory in the coming general election.
Meanwhile, another delegate, Rabiatul Adawiyah Sulaiman, said the effort to empower women is a joint effort as work-life balance is not a privilege, but the right of every woman.
She added that balance is the key to enable women to become economic contributors.
“We make it heard that women are the lifeblood of justice and we must mobilise to make it a success.
“We will fight to ensure that women get their place. We want to make sure that women in PKR fight for all women in this country.”
PKR’s national congress kicks off today and will end on Sunday. – The Vibes, July 15, 2022
