SHAH ALAM – While the PKR election results undoubtedly sparked some internal conflict within the party, they also caused some family friction – at least between Melaka Wanita chief Farzana Hayani Mohd Nasir and her father.
Debating the party president’s policy speech at PKR’s national congress here today, Farzana admitted that she and her father – both heavily involved in politics – did not see eye to eye when they were casting votes for the deputy president post.
However, despite quarrelling for months due to their political differences, she revealed that she patched things up with her father Mohd Nasir Mamat, who lost in the contest for the Tangga Batu division chief’s post.
“We were arguing but because of the fertile democracy in our family, we managed to weather the party election.
“After quarrelling for months, I am still my father’s favourite child. Alhamdulillah,” she said in jest.
Additionally, Farzana also reiterated calls from the women’s wing for them to be given the opportunity to lead with at least 30% female involvement in decision-making roles at all levels to truly represent the 40% of the party membership which is female.
Growing up in a politically active family, Farzana, also known as Nana, was Pakatan Harapan’s youngest candidate in the Melaka election last November.
The 22-year-old faced a four-cornered fight against Muhammad Jefri Safry (Perikatan Nasional), Siti Faizah Abdul Azis (Barisan Nasional / BN) and Nazatul Ashraf Md Dom (Putra).
