KOTA KINABALU – Sabah leaders in the Dewan Rakyat and the state assembly should stand up as warriors for the state and fight to debate the Sulu heirs’ claims issue, said Sabah Bersatu information chief Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan.
He said Sabah’s leaders must put their political differences aside, stop blaming one another, and be united to fight for the sovereignty of Sabah and Malaysia.
“This is Sabah’s dignity, the nation’s sovereignty. It is not something that can be taken lightly.
“We don’t want the people to question, the people to lose the confidence in our leaders in the Dewan Rakyat and state assembly who are supposed to be their voices in all issues,” he said in a statement today.
Yesterday in the Dewan Rakyat, uproar ensued when a motion to debate the seizure of Petronas assets by the heirs of the Sulu sultanate was rejected by the speaker.
In Sabah, assembly Speaker Datuk Kadzim Yahya also rejected the motion to discuss the matter involving the Sulu sultanate’s heirs, saying that the issue is more apt for debate in Parliament, adding that the application was against the house’s regulations.
Khairul said the people need explanation and not unclear information on the issue.
“The issue about the claims should be looked into as deeply as possible, and tackled as best, as fast as possible. It is because it was not resolved that Sulu seized Petronas’ assets.
“The incident gives the impression as if Sulu’s claim is recognised internationally. The federal government, especially Sabah leaders, must stand up to fight to solve this issue,” he stressed.
Khairul said that there are questions regarding the matter that must be discussed that could go back to the intrusion of Lahad Datu in 2013.
