KUALA LUMPUR – Former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim died tonight at 11.08pm at the Cardiac Vascular Central Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

A post on his Facebook page stated that the 75-year-old passed away in the company of his family and loved ones, and is survived by his widow, four children, and two grandchildren.

The late legendary banker, who was instrumental in Malaysia’s 1981 “Dawn Raid” which saw the nation take over then British firm Kumpulan Guthrie Bhd at the London Stock Exchange, had been hospitalised since April 23 due to a heart infection.

His body will be taken to Saidina Umar Al Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara to undergo Muslim funerary rites and be prepared for burial.

“His body will then be taken to the Shah Alam State Mosque to give the people of Selangor the opportunity to pay their last respects and perform funeral prayers.

“As decreed by His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Al-Haj, his body will be interred in the Royal Mausoleum (Makam Diraja) in Shah Alam,” said the post.

Khalid was considered to be a genius in the financial field.

Besides his success in leading the Dawn Raid, he had also increased Selangor’s coffers tremendously during his time as menteri besar.

Leading the state when he was PKR’s Ijok assemblyman from 2008 until 2014, Khalid had pushed the state reserves up to more than RM1 billion – making it the richest state in the country. – The Vibes, July 31, 2022
