GEORGE TOWN – Malaysians got a glimpse of the psychological pain and grief inflicted by Covid-19 when a woman shared her father’s farewell note on social media.

Syafiga Humairak, 32, took to social media to say that her father, Ahmad Ahmad Taib, 58, could only scribble some parting words before falling into a coma on Wednesday.

Before testing positive for Covid-19 a week before his death, he had kidney disease. He died at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, the New Straits Times reported.

In his farewell note, Ahmad asked that his family continue praying and sought forgiveness. He also urged them to take care of themselves.

Due to the infectious nature of the virus, families are not allowed near Covid-19 patients in hospitals.

Syafiga, based in Penang, was not allowed to keep her father’s note as medical authorities were worried the paper may be contaminated.

She was quoted as saying that most members of her family had contracted Covid-19, including her 1-month-old nephew.

“(My father) did not show any positive development. In fact, his condition deteriorated, and the doctors decided to sedate him on Monday. He wrote the notes before he was sedated. He was not able to talk. We also managed to make a video call to him before he was in a coma,” she was quoted as saying.

Syafiqa said most of her family members were also unable to attend her father’s funeral.

He was buried at the Jalan Bendahara Muslim cemetery in Ipoh. – The Vibes, November 21, 2020
