ALOR GAJAH – A total of RM17 million has been allocated for the preparation of food kits and will be distributed to disaster victims, specifically victims of floods nationwide during the monsoon season, which is set to end in March next year.
Minister in the Prime Minister Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said the allocation will increase if the need arises.
“These food kits will be given to victims housed at temporary evacuation centres (PPS).
"In light of new Covid-19 norms, as well as compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) at the PPS, we also provide personal protective equipment to disaster personnel," he told reporters after visiting SJKT Durian Tunggal.
The minister also said there was no need to freeze the leave of all rescue personnel or disaster management teams, specifically the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) or the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
Currently, there are more than two million APM and Nadma personnel, including volunteers, nationwide.
During the visit, Redzuan, who is also Alor Gajah MP, announced a RM20,000 contribution to SJKT Durian Tunggal to repair damages following a flash flood in the district.
Meanwhile, Melaka APM director Lt Col (PA) Effendi Ali said the number of flood victims in the Jasin and Alor Gajah districts has dropped to 173 people from 41 families.
Effendy, who is also the states' disaster management committee chief secretariat, said that 47 were housed at the SK Durian Tunggal PPS and three were placed at the Balai Raya Kampung Gadek PPS, both in Alor Gajah.
‘’For the Jasin district, the SK Tehel PPS is housing 123 victims today as of 5pm.
“The Balai Raya Kg Gadek PPS was opened today at 8am while SMK Dang Anum PPS in Jasin was closed today at 10am and all 75 victims were allowed home,’’ he said in a statement today. – Bernama, November 21, 2020
