KOTA KINABALU – Sabah may see a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases again due to mass screening taking place in Telipok and Kg Numbak, said state Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

He said the state Health Department has to screen 21,000 residents in the two areas.

“The test results are expected to contribute to a steep increase in Covid-19 cases for Kota Kinabalu in the near future (depending on the testing process).”

An EMCO was imposed on the two areas starting from November 16 to 29.

Masidi said Sabah recorded 346 new Covid-19 cases today, with a cumulative total of 25,787 cases.

“Today, three deaths were recorded, one each in the Keningau, Kudat and Lahad Datu districts.”

He said 369 patients have been discharged while 2,373 are receiving treatment – 645 in hospitals and 1,728 in low-risk Covid quarantine and treatment centres.

Some 72 patients are in intensive care while 16 are on ventilators.

Masidi said Kota Kinabalu has the highest number of new cases today at 109, followed by Lahad Datu (54), Kudat (49), Tuaran (45), Sandakan (36), Tawau (13) and Semporna (12), with other districts recording single-digit cases.

Beaufort and Beluran have changed from yellow zones to orange today with no new clusters detected. – The Vibes, November 21, 2020
