MIRI – Batu Lintang state assemblyman See Chee How who resigned from opposition Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) said he wants to remain free from party politics and is open to working with all.
“I want to be free from any party politics. I resigned from PSB to be free to work as an independent – with anybody and everybody, regardless of political affiliations.
“I want to stay out of party politics and will not join any party or form any new party.
“I want to work for the betterment of the people, and I can contribute more using different avenues and ways without being in a party,” he told a press conference at his office in state capital Kuching today.
See said he will not respond to any comments from PSB and party president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh on his resignation.
“As this is a subject matter that could end up in court, my lawyers have advised me not to talk about this. PSB and its party president are working very hard to bring about changes in Sarawak and I wish them well,” said See.
He also declined to comment on specific reasons for him leaving PSB but he said he had thought about it for months before deciding to resign.
Two days ago, Wong said PSB was mulling legal action against See.
Wong said PSB may use ways to seek compensation from See who had signed a pre-state election agreement with PSB.
He added that the agreement stated that if See resigned from PSB after winning on the party platform, he would pay compensation and resign as state assemblyman.
See is a three-term assemblyman. He won the Batu Lintang state seat in a five-cornered fight in last December’s state polls.
He was with PKR for two terms but resigned and joined PSB two years ago. – The Vibes, August 16, 2022
