KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 1,096 fresh cases of Covid-19 today and 1,104 recoveries, marking the second day in a row of recoveries exceeding new infections, the Health Ministry said.
In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said there were three deaths and three new clusters, while four clusters have ended.
Selangor saw the highest number of cases at 603, followed by Sabah (311) and Perak (55).
Kuala Lumpur recorded 30 cases, of which four are imported, while Negri Sembilan saw 29 cases, followed by Kedah with 16.
Penang tallied 13 cases, while Labuan and Johor saw nine cases.
Meanwhile, Pahang, Terengganu and Sarawak saw no new cases.
Of the total cases today, 425 are citizens and 665 foreigners. Six cases are imported, Dr Noor Hisham said.
The ministry also said 106 cases are being treated in intensive care, with 46 requiring intubation.
The cases recorded as at 12pm today bring the cumulative number of infections to 54,775 cases since the pandemic began. The total number of recoveries are 41,594, or 75% of the overall number of cases. This means that the total active cases are at 12,843.
"The instances of positive Covid-19 cases in Selangor were caused by the additional cases in work-related clusters, especially the Teratai cluster with 502 cases," he said.
"Sabah also recorded a high number of cases today due to the rise of detections among close contacts amounting to 139 cases (44.7%)."
On the three deaths, the ministry said all of them occurred in Sabah, involving a 68-year-old local man with a history of high blood pressure and stroke at Tawau Hospital.
The coronavirus also claimed the life of a 90-year-old local man with a history of stroke and heart disease at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The last death involved an 80-year-old non-citizen with a history of stroke at Duchess of Kent Hospital.
