KUALA LUMPUR – A group of human rights activists today filed police reports against PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang for making statements that are allegedly insulting to non-Muslims.

S. Shashi Kumar, president of the Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF), said that Islamist leaders such as Hadi are trying to disrupt the harmony between religious groups, in making baseless accusations without any solid evidence.

He said this after a report was lodged by members of GHRF outside the Sentul district police headquarters.

He said police reports have been filed against the politician in several states such as Penang, Johor, and Sarawak.

Shashi stressed that the Islamist party should be banned and dissolved as it disturbs the harmony of Malaysia, likening the situation to the dissolution of the Malayan Communist Party.

“Malayan Communist Party can be banned in this country just because of their ideology. The same goes with PAS’ ideology, which is too extreme.

He said this is not the first time PAS made such an insulting statement to non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras.

“We don’t want an apology from PAS, we want stipulated law to take action on Hadi.

He said GHRF would propose a judicial review if the authorities decide to take no action against Hadi. He also stressed that the group did not intend to submit any memorandum as it does not work.

“It has been 8 days since Hadi posted that statement, and we expect authorities to take action against him. Unfortunately, nothing has taken place.

“We have enough with these insulting statements. We never filed any police report against PAS, but we want all of this to stop.

“Hadi keeps defaming the non-Muslims and playing the ‘racial and religious card’ just because the 15th general election is around the corner,” he claimed.

“This is a secular nation, a multiracial nation with multicultural and multireligious elements,” he added, taking PAS to task for not practising harmony and peace.

Hadi had uploaded a video of his sermon on Facebook in which he said non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras are the ones most involved in causing corruption.

Hadi likened corruption in Malaysia to stagnant water that allowed mosquitoes to breed and where he said corruption had roots. – The Vibes, August 28, 2022
