KUALA LUMPUR – It is up to the National Security Council (NSC) to decide the fate of football league matches amid the Covid-19 pandemic, said Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
The deputy youth and sports minister told the Dewan Rakyat today that all decisions to restore matches are under NSC’s jurisdiction.
“However, we will continue to help the sports industry through the Geran Prihatin Sukan, which will help affected sports operators,” he said in response to a supplementary question from P. Prabakaran (PH-Batu).
Prabakaran asked whether the government wants to continue the Premier League and Super League, as other countries still hold league matches during the pandemic.
On November 11, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that NSC has rejected the Malaysian Football League’s appeal to continue the Malaysia Cup competition during the conditional movement control order period.
Wan Fayshal said under Budget 2021, more than 50,000 youth are expected to get apprenticeship opportunities, and at least 35,000 are expected to secure contract jobs under the MyStep programme.
He said the ministry will also develop the MyBelia system as a one-stop centre to facilitate access to both public and private initiatives.
“The socio-economic challenges for young people are expected to continue until next year, and the ministry will continue to formulate and implement various initiatives to help them.” – The Vibes, November 23, 2020
