ALOR STAR – A hush descended across a temporary canopied hall outside Stadium Darul Aman here today as ten youngsters who lost their parents due to Covid-19 came on stage to receive financial aid from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.
Some members of the public who had gathered were seen shedding tears as the children of the victims strode up one after another to receive contributions of between RM1,000 and RM1,500 as part of Keluarga Malaysia relief aid. They were also presented with a mock cheque for the occasion.
Ismail Sabri was seen giving words of comfort to the youths who had lost either a father or a mother to the deadly virus that had gripped the world for most of the past two years, and lingers on till today.
Ismail Sabri was also seen hugging some of the youngsters as Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid poignantly looked on.
Covid-19 has taken 2,667 lives in Kedah up till today, according to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal. A total of 307,760 people in the state have been infected with the virus.
The event was held in conjunction with a Keluarga Malaysia family carnival hosted at the venue.
Addressing the crowd, Ismail Sabri stressed that the concept of Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) has been a success, because it reflects what the people want.
“We want what a family needs. Security, healthcare, love, meaningful jobs and for members of the family to excel in their respective lives despite being different,” he said.
“Each member also needs to be tolerant of the other,” he added.
He said that some 100,000 people, including those who attended the Merdeka Day celebrations in Putrajaya, have participated in the family carnival that is taking place as a roadshow throughout the country.
Ismail Sabri said he was encouraged to continue the roadshow due to the turnout by people of different backgrounds, religions, and races.
“They have come together under one common purpose of living under the one large family tent of Malaysia,” he said. “Let us cast aside our divisions and hatred and move forward as one family.” – The Vibes, September 2, 2022
